Accessibility Statement

Last updated: July 6, 2026

Harrison's Hope is committed to making our website and services accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, the Accessible Canada Act, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

1. Our commitment

As an Ontario-based registered charity serving individuals and families living with FASD, we recognize that accessibility is essential. We are committed to identifying, removing, and preventing barriers to information, communication, and participation.

2. Standards we follow

  • WCAG 2.2 Level AA: The international standard for web accessibility.
  • AODA: Ontario's accessibility law for organizations in the public and non-profit sectors.
  • Accessible Canada Act: Federal accessibility legislation applicable to federally regulated organizations and programs.

3. What we have done

We have built accessibility into our website from the start. Measures include:

  • A "Skip to main content" link on every page for keyboard users.
  • Semantic HTML landmarks such as <header>, <nav>, <main>, and <footer>.
  • ARIA labels and descriptions for navigation, buttons, carousels, and the chat assistant.
  • Sufficient colour contrast for text and interactive elements.
  • Keyboard-operable menus, buttons, forms, and carousel controls.
  • Descriptive alternative text for meaningful images.
  • Respect for prefers-reduced-motion to reduce animations for users who prefer less motion.
  • Responsive design that works on desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.
  • A visible, high-contrast focus indicator on all interactive elements.

4. Known limitations

Some third-party content or links (for example, CanadaHelps donation pages, embedded podcasts, or external PDFs) may not fully conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We encourage these providers to meet accessibility standards and we review our links regularly.

If you encounter a barrier on our site, please let us know so we can investigate and fix it.

5. Feedback and accessible formats

We welcome your feedback on accessibility. If you need information in an alternative format, or if you experience any difficulty using our website, please contact us:

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within five business days.

6. Multi-year accessibility plan

Harrison's Hope will continue to improve accessibility by:

  • Regularly reviewing our website against WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
  • Training volunteers and staff who create web content on accessibility best practices.
  • Listening to community feedback and removing barriers quickly.
  • Publishing an updated accessibility statement at least annually.

7. Accessibility tools

You can use built-in browser and operating-system features to improve your experience:

  • Zoom in with Ctrl + + (Windows) or Cmd + + (Mac).
  • Use your device's screen reader (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack).
  • Enable high-contrast mode or reduce motion in your system settings.

Thank you for helping us build a more accessible Harrison's Hope. If you have suggestions, we want to hear them.
